アニメフィギュアanime figyua
Quick definition:An anime figure is a collectable statue or model of an anime, manga or game character, usually made of plastic or PVC, displayed on shelves and ranging from small and simple to large and detailed.
Meaning
Anime figures are collectable models of characters, usually made from PVC plastic and painted by hand or machine. They are often called figures or scale figures, and they come in many sizes, from small prize figures to large statues. Poses can be action scenes, calm moments or playful positions, and many include bases and accessories.
Types include scale figures, which are made to a stated proportion such as one to seven, prize figures, which are cheaper and often won in arcades, and articulated figures like figma, which can be posed. Collectors choose according to budget, space and taste, and many collect a single series or character.
Figures are sold through shops, online stores and conventions, often as preorders, and rare ones can become costly. Fans take care of them with display cases, dust cloths and shelves out of direct sunlight, which can fade the paint. For many collectors a figure is a way to bring a favourite character into the home.
Origin:Anime figure combines anime with figure, a word borrowed in Japanese as figyua and used for collectable character models. Character toys have been sold in Japan for many decades, and the hobby grew strongly as anime became popular from the 1980s onwards. Fans worldwide use the English phrase as the general name for the hobby.
Example:A fan visits a hobby shop and chooses a boxed figure of a favourite heroine in a school uniform, holding a bag and smiling. At home she removes it carefully from its tray, attaches the base and places it on a shelf beside two others from the same series.
Did you know?Scale figures are usually described by their ratio to real size, and one of the most common is one to seven, which makes a standing figure around twenty centimetres tall. This allows collectors to display different characters at similar sizes on the same shelf.
